  We went to Dr. Beal's office to have some lesions on my husband's scalp evaluated (AK) and many moles evaluated. The PA in the office treated the AK and recommended an excisional Bx of 2 his moles. Procedure was scheduled and we thought we were having the procedure done by the Physician, not the case. the Excisions were completed by the PA, we never met the Physician. That is who we made the appointment with. I welcome working with PA & NP's, but that should be complimented by meeting the supervising physician. I was removed from the room for the procedure. Wow, that is really wrong! I am a Pediatric Nurse from Wisconsin and have 32 years of experience 7 of which I worked with the Peds Derm Surgeon. Family were allowed in the room. We kept a chair by the parent in case they got light headed and yes...we cared both for the child and the parent during the procedure. We practiced in a manner that included the family! No written instructions were given to my husband and he doesn't remember what they told him. I was not spoken to regarding the post procedural care. Healthcare is very different down here. As a practice you could serve to learn a lot about the importance of including family members to increase Medical Literacy and customer satisfaction!
